FHC Welcomed 30 Summer Interns Through Community Partnership Program!

FREDERIKSTED, U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS — August 18, 2026 — Frederiksted Health Care, Inc. (FHC) proudly welcomed approximately 30 summer interns as part of its 2026 Summer Internship Program, providing high school and college students and recent college graduates with valuable hands-on experience and exposure to careers in healthcare. Interns began and completed their assignments at various times from June through August during the six-to-eight-week program. 

Through this community-focused initiative, FHC partnered with the U.S. Virgin Islands Department of Labor and the U.S. Virgin Islands Legislature to create meaningful summer employment and learning opportunities for local students. Frederiksted Health Care also provided internship opportunities directly through its own summer internship program, expanding the number of young people able to gain practical experience in a healthcare setting. 

The 30 interns were placed across several areas of Frederiksted Health Care, including Administration, Clinical Services, Dental Services, and Division of Social and Community Programs. Each intern was given the opportunity to learn from experienced staff, participate in day-to-day operations, and gain a better understanding of the many career paths available within the healthcare field. 

The program which ended last week Friday was designed to go beyond traditional summer employment. Interns received real-world experience in their respective fields of education or desired career, allowing them to connect what they are learning in the classroom with practical workplace experiences. 

Throughout the summer, interns had opportunities to develop professional skills, explore healthcare careers, contribute to projects and activities, and gain a deeper appreciation for the importance of serving the community. Their experiences also provided an opportunity to build confidence, strengthen communication and teamwork skills, and better understand the responsibilities associated with their chosen fields.  At the end of the program several students were offered full-time and part-time positions and are in the process joining the organization.
